I am the queen who lives.
—Nyn of House Sylvariel
Nyn of House Sylvariel, known to her people as "The Queen Who Lives," is the last hope for the High People and the heir to the throne of Muraius. Born into a line of Queens who once commanded the skies from the floating city of Muraius, Nyn inherited not only the crown of Elsene, but the burden of stewardship over the Midworld. After the destruction of the Great Crystal, Nyn fled to the north of Farlas, where she preserved a sapling of the God Tree—a faint but vital link to her people's former glory—and hid there for safety with her Daemon handmaid, Wildcat.
But her time in solitude did not last long; grief was overcome by conviction, and she resolved to set things right by traveling across the world to gather unlikely allies. Her journey has taken her from the Dune Sea to the Northern Wastes and everywhere in between, forging new alliances and establishing a coalition of forces poised to unseat the Emperor and beat her sister, Elektra, to controlling the destiny of the High People.
Despite her noble intentions, Nyn struggles with the weight of her responsibilities. The memory of Muraius’ grandeur haunts her, and she is constantly torn between her ideals of the past and the conflicting demands of many disparate factions who want to support her. Her crown, imbued with the magic of Queens long past, offers her power—but it also symbolizes the impossible standards she feels compelled to meet. Will Nyn succeed in the quest of queens, or will she fall short of her goals and be eclipsed by the ambitions of her evil sister?
