About Mariana Bay

Home to the Good Ladies, Mariana Bay sits comfortably in waters of the White Sea, neighboring the treacherous shores of the Dread Legion in Mordaine. Mariana Bay is protected by the Prim Rose buccaneers, whose captains have served the Good Ladies for generations.

Mariana Bay is considered a critical crossroads for trade between neighboring realms, in the same way Arcanum is regarded as a key player in the world's economy (its neighbor in the north), but owes its allegiance to no one. This is because no one knows the seas as well as the Good Ladies and their supernautical airforce, and so Mariana is considered unassailable. Furthermore, the uncharted nature of the Outer Rim insulates Mariana Bay from outside influence.

Mariana is fertile, yielding a variety of resources that make it largely self-sufficient. Its people are diverse and hail from all over the world. The Mariana worship a variety of gods, though the Sylvan Pantheon's Tephratigo and Tregator are favorites of the Good Ladies, due to their emphasis on self-reliance, respect for nature, and tenacity in the pursuit of adversity.

The Good Ladies

The lineage of the Good Ladies is a mystery. Some say they are descended from mystic sovereigns who ruled a now-sunken continent, eons ago. Others proclaim they are the Amazonian offspring of mortals and gods. Whatever the truth, the Good Ladies are both loved and feared for their strength and fairness in governing the unruly wilds that are the Merrivale Islands.
