Home of the Dread Legion

Mordaine is the domain of the Dread Legion, founded by Lord Mord long before the Lords' Alliance was contemplated by Men. The Dread Legion is one of the Emperor's constant enemies, for its fleet patrols the shores of Mordaine, taking prisoners who trespass upon its boundaries to be bartered for political gain. Mordainers value strength, independence, and freedom above all else, and as such refuse to submit to the Decree of the One God. Mordainer lands are swampy and tough to till, but yield plentiful resources, thus their people are determined and patient. Most are avowed worshipers of the First-Order Gods, such as Kistvaen, for whom death is a celebrated aspect of life, and the Gods of Men, such as Horologos, the God of Time.

Because Mordaine is so centrally located, neighboring realms such as Arcanum, Idania, and the Merrivale Islands are forced to trade with it and negotiate passage through its boundaries.

In the west of Mordaine, the dense forests of Merovia are home to the vast majority of Mordainers, who regard the Dread Lords in Irongrey Castle as both dangerous tyrants and tireless protectors of the peace.

This ancient castle holds a terrifying secret: it is in fact a slumbering, prehistoric Ender. The creature’s counterparts lie deep beneath the swamps of Merovia, waiting to be awakened.

The Fyrds of Old

The true authority of the Dread Legion derives from the fyrds of old, a series of small militias commanded by powerful families throughout the Mordainer countryside.
