The Scrolls of Elsene are sacred texts that contain the foundational knowledge of Yevim civilization. Passed down from the age before The Fall, the Scrolls are said to detail the secrets of the Great Crystal’s construction, a purported magical lodestone that once sustained the floating city of Muraius and the dominion of the High People over Midworld. Some scholars argue the Scrolls are more than historical records; they may contain a spell of immense power, purportedly crafted by the Great Builder, the Nim architect whose ingenuity helped build the Magic City.
Despite their fame, the true nature of the Scrolls is uncertain. Their text, written in a combination of ancient glyphs and magical sigils, is notoriously difficult to interpret. Some fragments appear to describe the mechanics of Iphendi glassteel, the indestructible material used in the Great Crystal’s construction. Others are written in the demonic language of the Rasa, whose spirits are somehow connected to the Crystal.
The Scrolls’ are rumored to have been lost to time, perhaps hidden in the ruins of Muraius or locked away in the vaults of Arcanum among other unnamed treasures. Their value is incalculable, not only for their potential to unlock lost magical knowledge but also for the political power they represent. If the Scrolls were to fall into the wrong hands, the consequences could be catastrophic—especially if they are indeed the key to restoring the Great Crystal.
