When the God Tree fell, its roots splintered but did not die. They linger, fractured and faint, reaching for a power that stirs beneath our feet.

Ley lines are the invisible threads of power that once tied the earth to the divine essence of the God Tree. Stretching from the fallen city of Muraius through Mt. Helicon and into the deepest reaches of the earth, these astral conduits carry the voice of Yevna and the lifeblood of the world’s magic. The High People used the Great Crystal to channel this energy, wielding the ley lines as a source of power.

Before The Fall, the ley lines formed a vast network, their intersections marking places of immense spiritual and magical significance. Mt. Helicon, the Praxim of the Ancients, and the floating isles of the Aerie were just a few of the nodes where their power could be felt most strongly. At these nexuses, the High People built temples, performed sacred rites, and drew upon Yevna’s strength to guide their dominion over Midworld.

With the destruction of the Great Crystal and the God Tree, the ley lines were severed, their currents weakened. In the aftermath, only those who are deeply attuned to Yevna’s voice—like the Intercessors or the most faithful adherents of the Goddess—retain the ability to sense where these hidden lie. Those who attempt to tap into the ley lines without proper guidance risk madness, corruption, or worse.

In the present age, the ley lines remain a tantalizing mystery, drawing scholars, adventurers, and zealots to seek them out. Some believe they hold the key to restoring the Great Crystal, while others see them as a relic of a dead age best left undisturbed. As factions vie to harness the ley lines, their tenuous power threatens to ignite conflicts that could reshape the world yet again.

Adventure Hook

The ley lines represent the fragility of the world’s magical infrastructure and by extension, their role as conduits connecting distant places and powers can reflect the party’s journey, emphasizing the need to bring disparate forces together to restore harmony in the world.

A poisoned ley line has the potential to corrupt anything it comes in contact with, for many miles. Warped fauna, maddened wizards, and chaotic phenomena may all be symptoms of its corruption. If the party encounters a town grappling with any of these things, the source may be unclear at first. Selfish parties, like a greedy local sorcerer within the town, may look to capitalize on what’s happening. The double threat of a deteriorating town full of monsters and a sorcerer plotting against them will put a clock on their efforts and heighten the tension.

What caused the ley line to become corrupt, and can it be reversed?
How will the party navigate the perils in the town while trying to protect it from the monsters afoot and the sorcerer’s evil plot?
What ancient secrets lie buried underground where the ley line may be directly tapped?
