A Quest of Queens—Lore

Jane Graybreaker

Any Graybreaker worth her salt knows it's better business to pay someone to do the dirty work, than to do it yourself.

—Jane Graybreaker

Jane Graybreaker is a master thief and an Operator who oversees the Hand of the Lonely Bastard in Tormsdale. Her illustrious career in the Graybreakers stretches back almost a century, and she's held posts in Arcanum during the Long Night alongside Changelings, worked for the Sultana Meseampur in the Dune Sea, and served the rebellion in Idania during its occupation. Renowned for her cunning, her name is synonymous with the notion of the impossible heist in rogue galleries all over the world. Yet Jane's story is a mystery to all who work for her.

Some say she was born an orphan into poverty and grew up as a pickpocket on the streets of Arcanum. Others insist she was once an Imperial noblewoman, who turned to a life of crime after murdering her traitorous husband. Still others claim she was captured at an early age in a failed raid by marauders in Sirokos, and learned to fight from their dancing masters. Whatever the truth of her youth, Jane's path led her into the service of the Graybreakers, where she's made a name for herself on the international stage.

Jane’s signature tools are poison and ingenuity. She's disarming and witty, with a wry smile that conceals a calculating mind. Jane’s loyalty to the guild and its Operators, however, is unquestioned, and despite her ruthlessness, she's respected for always abiding by the guild's unspoken codes of conduct. Whether Jane will make a powerful ally—or adversary—of the party depends on what they have to offer her.
