Like the Daemon and their predecessors the magespawn, this subrace of the Tarth were also prehistoric experiments of the High People that intermingled their own essence with that of the Tarth. Unlike the magespawn, the Faunlin were banished to Midworld upon being cast out of the Magic City, and they survived over the eons among the fey in the Shadowvale.
The Faunlin live in magical forests that serve as pocket realities splintered off from the Astral Veil. Such vales, as they are called, are invisible to non-spellcasters, and the doorways into them are often hidden within mundane jungles and untamed wilds. Within the vales, the Faunlin cultivate sorcerous flora akin to the God Tree, which grow lodestones in giant seed form. The Faunlin refer to this magical network as the spellweave, and they are able to travel from vale to vale almost instantly through it, no matter how far apart the vales are in the material world.
The Faunlin are a reclusive race of scavengers, led by a seer-like matriarch who guides them via prophecy. They have an adversarial relationship with the Tarth, as they believe they possess a divine connection to the Great Labyrinth. In the distant past, the Faunlin and the Tarth went to war over its stewardship, and the Faunlin were forced into hiding as a result.
