Swift Claw was one of the apprentices Barbara Keladon rescued when she escaped the Congress of Judges. A Daemon from the warrior caste, her tough-as-nails demeanor hides a fiercely loyal softer side that she reveals only to those closest to her. As one of Barbara’s apprentices, Swift Claw quickly bonded with Barbara as the Daemon do with the High People.
Swift Claw’s past includes stints serving a number of disreputable masters after The Fall. She often wishes she did not survive the cataclysm, because she finds herself rudderless in a world without the High People to guide her. For a time, she was captured by slavers in Mamara and forced to fight in underground arenas for the entertainment of her captors, until an Imperial Inquisitor purchased her for candidacy in the Congress of Judges. Her survival in these brutal conditions cultivated in her a sharp tactical mind and a deep distrust of human authority.
However, her liberation by the party and her time under Barbara’s mentorship gave her new purpose. Among her fellow apprentices, she often takes on the role of protector, particularly toward the psychic Josef, whose candor she admires.
