The flagship of the Prim Rose supernautical airforce, the Dauntless stands as a testament to the legacy of Captain Black, its original commander, and the values he upheld under the Good Ladies of Mariana Bay. With its sleek, enchanted hull and unmatched maneuverability, The Dauntless is both a marvel of clockwerk engineering and a beacon of hope for the Merrivale Islands.

Once a feared and celebrated vessel under Captain Black’s command, The Dauntless became the pride of his granddaughter, Captain Veena Black. Following in her grandfather’s footsteps, Veena leads her crew with equal measures of grit and compassion, wielding The Dauntless as both a weapon of war and a symbol of solidarity for the oppressed.

The Dauntless’s reputation, however, has not shielded it from hardship. In the official Quest of Queens campaign, the party first encounters Veena after The Dauntless is shipwrecked in the skies, a casualty of a confrontation with Rhansmarc the Cruel, leader of the Black Banner pirates. The ship’s damage and Veena’s desperation underscore the stakes of the struggle between the Prim Rose Buccaneers and the lawless chaos of the Outer Rim. Despite its battered state, The Dauntless remains a rallying point, inspiring Veena and her crew to rise again and reclaim their place as champions of the Merrivale Islands.

The ship itself is more than a vessel; it is a repository of history. Hidden within its decks are remnants of Captain Black’s adventures, treasure maps, and the most finely crafted lodestone technology in the world. Its magical engines grant The Dauntless both speed and resilience, while its reinforced hull and armaments make it a formidable opponent in battle.

Story Hook

The Dauntless represents the sort of renown the PCs might aspire towards as adventurers. It’s not just a magnificent airship of incredible power, but a reminder of all the deeds its crew has accomplished throughout the world. Captain Veena’s longing to be reunited her vessel is tied up with all the memories she’s had aboard it, with her crew. Her fanaticism to regain what was lost with Rhansmarc’s rise to power is best expressed through her reverence for this vessel, so any quest to reclaim it is an opportunity to explore themes of obsession, loss, and the dangers of nostalgia.

Rhansmarc the Cruel, seeking vengeance, ambushes The Dauntless while it ferries critical supplies to the rebellion. The party must protect the ship, rally its crew, and fend off overwhelming forces from the Black Banner pirates.
