Captain Cutter Varsany emerged as heir to leadership of the Dread Legion following the betrayal and death of his brother, Reyn of House Mord. His brother's death came at the hands of Rhansmarc the Cruel, who abandoned Reyn in the Northern Wastes to face the dragon Chomantalth alone. This betrayal set Cutter on a path of vengeance that would reshape the political landscape of Mordaine.

During the events of the Irongrey Saga, Cutter returned from the Northern Wastes transformed by his encounter with Chomantalth. He carried with him a cold maleficence that became mysteriously entwined with the magical abilities of the Queen Who Lives. His time in the frozen north granted him powers that marked him as something more than human, though the exact nature of his transformation remains unclear.

Cutter demonstrated remarkable political acumen by uniting the fyrds of Mordaine—councils of common people whose support was crucial to controlling the region. He worked in secret to build this network of support, understanding that true power in Mordaine came not just from force of arms, but from the will of its people.

Captain Cutter is a complex ally with steadfast beliefs, an analog for Strider from Lord of the Rings, with Greyjoy sentimentality. His connection to the dragon Chomantalth and his mysterious cold maleficence raises suspicions about his true nature, since the dragons are considered children of Asag. Us he truly an ally, or will his quest for vengeance and power ultimately put him at odds with the party?

Cutter approaches the party with intelligence about a nest of dragon eggs from the Northern Wastes that Rhansmarc’s surviving followers are trying to recover. He needs help securing the eggs before they fall into enemy hands, but the party may be suspicious of the Dread Lord given his connection to Chomantalth.
