Belief... is a powerful thing.
—Luther of House Aurendir
Luther of House Aurendir is a High Person with hidden motives and a multifaceted agenda. Luther claims to be an Iphendi, a member of the ancient order of warriors who once served as the personal guard of the Yevim Queens. However, his true origins and present circumstances remain shrouded in mystery.
Luther says he was captured by an Imperial slave ship and taken from the wreckage of the Magic City in the aftermath of the Fall. Using his keen intellect and talent for psychic manipulation, Luther managed to rise through the ranks of the Imperial bureaucracy, eventually becoming a high-ranking servant of the Inquisitors in the Congress of Judges. In this role, he has worked as a double agent, pursuing Prophet-candidates for the Congress at the Empire's behest, while secretly extracting the memories of Yevim victims to safeguard them against Imperial use.
One of the few people who have managed to pierce Luther's veil of secrecy is Barbara Keladon, a human psychic who Luther pursued as his apprentice after the death of her mother. Before her birth, Luther fell in love with Barbara's mother, who was one among many magically gifted individuals that the Empire hunted for the purpose of turning them into Prophets. The fraught relationship between Barbara and Luther is complicated by Luther's love for her mother, but his designs for Barbara in the long run are unclear.
Luther likely cannot be trusted by the party, given that he is willing to sacrifice others and deceive allies in order to accomplish his aims. His stated goal is to protect the High People from extinction at the hands of the Emperor, but what he is truly after remains to be seen.
