Jacob began his journey as a humble constable in the plague-stricken town of Glenluce in Mordaine. When the necromancer Faolagan unleashed an undead scourge upon the town using a cursed Changeling artifact called The Grindstone, Jacob found himself overwhelmed, especially after his own sister fell victim to the dark magic.

It was the arrival of the adventuring party, including the Tarth druid Stahl and the human psychic Barbara Keladon, that turned the tide. Together they confronted the necromancer, with Jacob playing a crucial role in saving his town and putting an end to Faolagan's evil.

In the aftermath, Jacob stepped up to become the new Elder of Glenluce. His bravery and dedication caught the eye of Barbara, and the two fell in love. This bond would prove pivotal in Jacob's future path.

When Rhansmarc the Cruel, the pirate lord of the Black Banner, threatened Mordaine, Jacob chose to stand with the Dread Lords against this menace. His valor in the ensuing conflict, fighting alongside the Tarth warrior Kazarius and their allies, earned him recognition as a Dread Lord in his own right - a high honor for a man of common birth. Jacob thus embodies the Mordaine ideal that strength and merit, not lineage, determine one's worth.

Adventure Hook

Every campaign as that NPC the Game Master names haphazardly, whom the party becomes inexplicably attached to, for one reason or another. That’s how Jacob started out in the official Quest of Queens campaign. However, as a Dread Lord with a background as a town constable, Jacob offers a unique bridge between the common folk and these intimidating rulers of Mordaine. His presence in an adventuring party provides a way to humanize the Dread Lords and add nuance to the portrayal of Mordaine society.

A cloaked figure arrives at the gates of Mordaine, demanding an audience with Jacob of Merovia. They reveal themselves to be Raeburn, a former Graybreaker and ally of the late Elder Aidan from his constable days in Glenluce. Raeburn explains that Aidan was once a member of the notorious thieves’ guild, but had abandoned the life to seek a quiet existence as a baker in Glenluce. Raeburn fears that the Graybreakers will stop at nothing to get their pound of flesh, even if it means extracting it from Jacob since Aidan is dead.

Can Raeburn be trusted, or do they have their own agenda? What if they are still loyal to the Graybreakers and this is all a ploy to lure Jacob into a trap?
How can the party negotiate to clear Aidan’s debt without incurring the wrath of the Guild?
Did Aidan have other treasures hidden in Glenluce, besides The Grindstone?
