Lost is a funny word. Maybe I found myself while you were searching?
—Goom the Sage
Goom is a small, wiry frog man, belonging to a race of Rasan subhumans who are known to populate tropical regions of the Merrivale Islands. These races tend to live apart from human society, though their relationship to Changelings and the worship of Asag is far removed. From birth, Goom exuded boundless curiosity, and is often seen with scrolls tucked under one arm and a gnarled staff in the other, chasing obscure facts. At a young age, Goom was shipped off to the Library of Ambion because his inquisitiveness about the world drove his family crazy, and they were glad to be rid of him.
Within the Library's hallowed halls, Goom studied under some of the greatest sages of his time, first as a mere assistant, then as a scribe, and finally as a an apprentice to Library's Headmaster. His academic specialty was the history of magical phenomena on Midworld, and in time he became engrossed by the story of the Kaleidoscope Carnival—so much so that he embarked with a handful of his peers to find the door to the Carnival itself, and study it from the inside.
Inside, the Carnival twisted his perception of time as he explored its countless wonders and studied under the Wizard of the West to learn secrets of history lost to time. He eventually realized, however, that the place was designed to be a distraction, a safe haven from the world of ruin outside. When Goom met the cleric Fodel Bersk and heard his story, Goom realized that, like Fodel Bersk, his story was incomplete, and convinced the cleric to exit the Wizard's realm to return to Midworld.
