Felix Underwood is a Retainer Master from the Dune Sea and former Imperial agent who began his career under the service of the newly formed Arcadian Empire. Felix has a different story for each person who inquires about the circumstances of his leaving the service of the Emperor, but his tactical skill as a former Imperial agent is evident in the international capers he's pulled off as a Retainer Master.

Felix is well-known in illicit Syndicate circles as someone who can be counted on as long as the price is right, and he's known to hold no enmities against those he's double-crossed (or against those who got the best of him in a deal gone south). He's worked for the Red Compact, the Returners, and even the Left Hand; in Felix's mind, survival in the world of ruin is about proper networking, and so collecting contacts is as important as collecting jobs to say ahead of whichever dictator is on the rise tomorrow.

In Felix's employ is an arcanist and fellow Retainer named Edwin Grave Harrington, an erudite Arcanese Clockwerk whom Felix rescued from the Dune Sea and reassembled after an unfortunate accident. The two have become inseparable allies; wherever you see Felix you'll find Edwin, and vice versa.

Adventure Hook

Felix Underwood is the NPC your party will love to hate. He works best as a recurring character who initially appears as an antagonist but who is always more valuable to the party alive than dead. His status as a Retainer Master provides a perfect excuse for him to appear anywhere in the world pursuing various missions. GMs can use him to create scenarios where the party must weigh the cost of trusting someone untrustworthy for the greater good.

Felix approaches the party with information about a powerful weapon in Imperial possession. He needs their help to recover it, claiming it’s vital to the rebellion’s cause, and has a contract from the Prince proving he’s was hired because of his Imperial background. However, the mission requires working alongside other Retainers Felix knows, who may have their own agenda.

What is the true nature of the weapon?
How will other Retainers react to outsider involvement, and will their greed get the best of them?
What tricks does Felix have up his sleeve, to make the best of the situation for his own personal gain?
