A Quest of Queens—Lore

Atreus Stoutfury

When we entered the death gate, I saw true nobility in Atreus' sacrifice. His pain became our salvation.

—Engelbert Handsomebeef, from The Most Righteous Journey

Atreus Stoutfury was once a promising young paladin in the service of Icalde, trained in the ancient ways of his order to protect the city of Tarth and uphold its sacred traditions. However, an unspecified transgression led to Atreus being cast out in disgrace, stripped of his rank and exiled from the city he had sworn to defend.

Dejected but still clinging to the remnants of his faith, Atreus wandered the lands of Farlas seeking a path to redemption. It was during this aimless exile that he encountered the former Highgaard Kranmanouk, who was on a quest to gather allies to support the also-dishonored heir to the throne of Tarth, Kazarius. Together, Kranmanouk's motley crew would combat the encroaching forces of the Shadowvale that threatened their homeland. Kranmanouk promised Atreus a chance to restore his lost honor, and so the young Tarth pledged his sword and his life to the cause.

Despite his fall from grace, Atreus retains the martial prowess and unwavering discipline of his paladin training. Yet beneath his stoic exterior lies a soul tormented by regret and self-doubt, constantly questioning whether he is worthy of the second chance he has been granted.

As one of Kazarius' companions on the journey into the Great Labyrinth, Atreus confronted not only the trials ahead, but the demons of his past. The crucible of the Labyrinth tested his resolve, loyalty, and faith, forcing him to discover whether he had the strength to rise above his failures and become the paladin he was always meant to be.
