The dark is all around us. We must stay vigilant.
—Stahl
Stahl is a Tarth anchorite whose interest in the natural world sets him apart from the Tarth in Farlas. For reasons unknown, he self-exiled from the city Tarth to dedicate his life to wandering the wilds of various lands he believed cursed by the touch of Rasan spirits who linger in the earth.
As a devotee of Horologos, the God of Time, Stahl sees the natural cycle of life and death as a sacred balance that must be maintained at all costs. Stahl wields a wide array of druidic magic, able to call upon the power of the elements to heal, protect, and destroy. His spiritualist training enables him to detect the presence of lingering negative energy, such as might emanate from the undead. When the necromancer Faolagan began using a corrupted Changeling artifact to raise an army of ghouls in Glenluce, the presence of the undead hordes drew Stahl from his hovel in Merovia to restore the balance of nature in Glenluce.
Stahl is stoic and uncompromising, with a grim demeanor that often belies his compassion. Though he may seem callous or even cruel at times, his actions are guided by his deep-seated desire to do good in the world. He sees the suffering of the people of Glenluce and similarly plagued villages as a symptom of a larger imbalance caused by the lingering influence of Asag's brood.
