The spellweave is a mystical network that connects the Faunlin’s hidden vales, enabling them to traverse vast distances in an instant. These vales, pocket realities splintered from the Astral Veil, are concealed within the jungles and wilds of Midworld, accessible only through enchanted doorways that are invisible to non-spellcasters. Within these sacred spaces, the Faunlin cultivate sorcerous flora that resemble the legendary God Tree, growing lodestones in giant seed form to maintain the spellweave’s integrity.
To the Faunlin, the spellweave is both a physical and spiritual entity, synonymous with the Astral Veil itself. It is not merely a mode of travel but a lifeline, binding their isolated vales into a cohesive network. The spellweave allows the Faunlin to remain connected despite their reclusive nature, enabling them to protect their secrets, resources, and culture from the encroaching forces of Midworld.
Navigating the spellweave requires a deep understanding of its rhythms and the spiritual energy it channels. It is said that those attuned to its currents can sense the faint pulse of the Astral Veil within its ley lines. However, wandering into the spellweave unaccompanied by a Faunlin or other fey accustomed to its magical tides risks becoming lost in the liminal spaces between vales, or inadvertently attracting the attention of hostile spirits from the Astral Veil.
Despite its sacred nature, the spellweave’s existence is a source of tension between the Faunlin and other races. While the Faunline view it as a sanctuary, others fear it could be used to destabilize the realm, particularly if corrupted by forces like the Rasa or exploited by factions such as the Emperor’s Inquisitors.
