A Quest of Queens—Lore

The Sirokan Gods

Among the Sirokan cults, faith is not inherited; it is unearthed, like water from the deepest well.

—Saida Al-Sayed, Al Tufaili poet

The Sirokan Gods embody the harsh duality of the Dune Sea of Mamara: relentless and punishing, yet brimming with hidden truths for those who seek them. These deities are revered by the Cults of Mysteries, diverse religious sects that flourish in the sun-scorched sands of Sirokos. The faiths of the Sirokan gods are as varied as the people who traverse the dunes, incorporating elements from the Rasan Pantheon, the Fallen Pantheon, and even the Gods of Men, brought by travelers seeking fortune or penance in the desert.

Akasha the Unmerciful

Akasha is the harsh arbiter of the desert, a deity whose followers believe in the purifying power of suffering and the survival of the strong. Akasha’s worshipers thrive on the belief that pain and adversity refine the soul. Her cults are known for their endurance trials and their willingness to test the mettle of others through brutal rites. To invoke Akasha is to invoke judgment, an acknowledgment that the desert offers no second chances.

Tehuti, the God of Wisdom

Tehuti, by contrast, represents the wisdom hidden within the desert’s vast unknown. Often depicted as a robed figure with eyes of shifting sand, Tehuti is the patron of those who seek enlightenment. His followers believe that true power comes from contemplative study of the occult. Cults of Tehuti are often found near ancient ruins or along the Pilgrim’s Path, offering sanctuary to travelers in exchange for their knowledge.

The Broader Pantheon

Beyond Akasha and Tehuti, the Sirokan faith is extended by a patchwork of imported beliefs from other cultures. Shrines to the Rasan deities are scattered throughout Al Tufail, honoring the spirits of earth. In the more remote reaches, cults devoted to the Fallen gods explore forbidden rites, seeking power by making visceral offerings to the hungry gods. The Gods of Men, introduced by wanderers from Arcadia and beyond, are worshipped in secret enclaves, where the faithful struggle to adapt their creeds to life in the unforgiving Sea.

Faith in the Sirokan gods is not about dogma but survival. This deeply personal relationship of the Mamaran peoples with the deities mirrors the desert itself: ever-shifting, but all encompassing.
