To wear a Rasan mask is to become both predator and prey. It grants power, yes, but it also grants the Rasa a foothold in your world. Beware what you invite in.
—Intercessor Karain, "Sacraments of Purity"
Rasan masks are artifacts forged to contain the spirits of the Rasa, the chaotic progeny of Asag. These masks, crafted from Iphendi glassteel, were originally created through a ritual devised by the Yevim Intercessors to trap and neutralize the destructive influence of the Rasa. The masks are both a prison and a conduit, designed to bind the Rasa and prevent them from seeking new physical forms, while simultaneously imbuing the artifact with the spirit’s residual power.
After The Fall, many Rasan masks were scattered across Midworld, falling into the hands of treasure hunters, sorcerers, and unsuspecting victims. Each mask is unique, its powers tied to the specific Rasan spirit it contains. Those who possess a mask often gain extraordinary abilities—enhanced strength, psychic insight, or even control over elemental forces. Remarkably, the mask becomes invisible to all but the wearer once donned, and cannot be removed by mundane means. The gifts of the mask come at a steep price: the Rasa’s corrupting influence is activated by wearing the mask, which twists the thoughts and emotions of the wearer to conform with the desires of the Rasan spirit trapped within.
The Faunlin, inheritors of ancient Yevim traditions, view the purification of these artifacts as a sacred duty. They perform elaborate rituals to exorcise Rasan spirits from the masks, often risking their own lives to prevent the spirits from possessing others. Despite their efforts, the masks’ power ensures that they will always find a use among the curious or acquisitive.
