The House of Vek is one of the most infamous Changeling houses, due to its problematic history. This is the house of Zed, the ambitious Changeling exile who broke the sacred pact of his people and slew a fellow Changeling, ultimately devoting his life to reassembling the Heart of Asag.

Historically, the House of Vek occupied a prominent role within Changeling society, respected for its ancient ties to Asag and its reputed role as guardian of the Knife—a shard of the Heart of Asag, central to Changeling lore. However, the house’s power made it a target of envy and manipulation by rival houses, leading to its gradual decline. Zed’s exile, precipitated by his father's weakness and the scheming of his enemies, is emblematic of the house’s fall from grace.

The House of Vek’s current aims are tied to Zed’s quest to recover the shattered pieces of the Changeling Great Crystal. Zed's Oracle, Sela, meanwhile, acts as a voice of caution and wisdom, seeking to temper Zed’s ambition with the lessons of the past. Together, they represent the house’s struggle to reclaim its legacy while navigating the treacherous currents of Changeling society and the world beyond the Shadowvale.

Adventure Hook

The House of Vek may be the only House immediately accessible to the players, if they serve the Queen Who Lives. Its exposure to the party opens the door to reconsidering the Changelings as potential allies, despite their diametric opposition to the High People’s reign.

The party are Changelings tasked with proposing an alliance between their house and a House of High People, which have come into contact with each other during a crisis that threatens their collective survival. The negotiations are complicated by the party’s Oracle, who distrusts outsiders and is unwilling to compromise ancient enmities against the High People for strategic gain. The party must navigate the delicate balance of trust and manipulation to secure the alliance.

How might the party convince the Oracle, without compromising their own goals?
What terms might the High People offer that create moral or strategic dilemmas for the party?
Could the Oracle’s caution reveal hidden dangers within the party’s plans, or offer alternatives to his/her more ruthless strategies?
