Trust is a fool’s currency if it's not backed by the thing he is most loathe to lose.
—Jafar Faht
The unassuming Jafar Faht is a man of many talents: innkeeper, beekeeper, informant, smuggler, and survivor. As the proprietor of the Faht Bottom Inn, a watering hole nestled in the heart of the Dune Sea, Jafar pretends to be an aloof, blind old man who is attended to by his doting daughter Zara. But Jafar is in fact a Syndicate intelligence agent, whose network of connections spans the breadth of Midworld’s criminal underworld. His establishment is both a haven for weary travelers and a hub of political intrigue, where spies make deals for international secrets, and alliances are negotiated between ship captains over the roll of a die or the pour of a glass.
Jafar says his "retirement" as an innkeeper is less dangerous than the years he spent as a vizier in the court of Sultana Meseampur, but the sort of personalities he houses in the Faht Bottom Inn would make you think otherwise.
His charm lies in his ability adaptability. He can be the affable host, a shrewd negotiator, or the ruthless Syndicate operative, depending on the situation. His loyalties are to his family and the Caliphate of Mamara first, but Jafar is a man of principle, interested in the security of the realm above all.
