It’s already been another productive year in gaming at OSR+, and I can’t believe it’s already time for our annual pilgrimage to PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia. Between life and our day jobs, it’s always a struggle to push the design of the game forward. But despite all the boring stuff getting in the way, here’s what we accomplished this year…
That RPG Podcast
We started That RPG Podcast, an audio and video podcast about game design, and released 21 episodes to date. Inspired by our time at Worldbuild with Us, TRP is focused on providing tips for game masters, interviewing RPG designers (see our interviews with C.R. Rowenson and 9th Level Games), and brainstorming adventure hooks from our listeners. In December, we’ll be releasing our interview with Keith Ammann, author of The Monsters Know What They’re Doing and his upcoming book, Making Enemies.
Lots and Lots of Playtesing
We ran 46 remote games, with 14+ players and 4 game masters from all over the country (Boston, Philadelphia, Florida, and California). That’s 138 hours in session devoted to improving OSR+ with real world playtesting.
Development of the OSR+ Bestiary
We continue work on the OSR+ Bestiary, which is nearing completion. I drafted 317 monsters, 618 monster abilities, and 346 variations of those monsters, and extended the functionality of the Character Creator to incorporate the upcoming Monster Maker, which allows you to modify existing monsters and make new ones (coming early 2026). This is the last hurdle to system completion! As a result, we’re prepped to begin book design in 2026.
New Worlds of OSR+
To date, we have a catalogue of 22 campaign settings and adventures (called Worlds of OSR+), some of which you can sample on our website now! New settings this year include Guardians of the Glade, Enter the Dragon, Champions of the Deep, and a spooky to-be-named Halloween playtest, where you play vampire slayers.
New Realm Actions & Game Master Tools
We introduced several game master features to your account called “Realm Actions”, such that you can now friend each other to create adventuring parties with your sheets, share items between characters, create global story tags that players can view in all sheets in a party, and assign NPCs to an story tag tray so everyone in the party can see their tags and stances.
Community Activity
Our movie master Courtney ran over a dozen movie nights and game night hangouts for our Discord community.
Game Master Workshop & Game Master Forums
We started our Game Master’s Forum, where game masters get together to talk shop live on process, as well as conducted several Game Master Workshops (recordings to be released early 2026), on adventure and monster design. Subscribe to our Youtube for new videos!
Boy, am I exhausted. But I look forward to next year, and all the games it brings. Anyhow... my Lyft is here and I've got to get to PAX!
Thanks for playing OSR+.
