You play adventurers who have returned from your long journey in the ruined World Beyond to the last paradise on earth: the Glade, with a seed that may restore the World to the Way It Was. But upon your return, you learn that the World's corruption has reached your home, too. In this solarpunk adventure about loss and renewal, it's up to you to keep the future bright.
Guardians of the Glade is about hope and renewal. As your Guardian completes ventures back to the Glade, she faces perils in the wild that challenge both the PC's and the player's ingenuity. Social combat, natural and technological puzzles and traps, and resource management strain each venture, requiring survivalist cooperation among the Guardians in their trip home. But the real challenge comes when they reach the Glade and are forced to make moral choices that will change the fate of the world.
Each venture consists of one or more sessions, where you overcome perils in the World Beyond. Some mechanics trigger once per venture, such as Guardian archetypes, and the ability to rest and recover, symbolizing the challenge of a survivalist existence.
The World Beyond is full of natural and environmental traps as well as dangerous technology left behind from the Long Ago. Each venture, a negative condition derived from the corrupted landscape afflicts the party, representing their journey through a hazardous region.
Whenever you roll a 6, you generate 1 Renewal, which can be used to narrate a positive aspect of growth to the scene. Whenever you roll a 1, you generate Decay, which the GM uses to narrate a negative setback. In this way, the struggle to create a brighter future plays out in the metanarrative.
As you journey home, you build a coalition of allies, from monsters you heal to NPCs whose communities you protect. Their support equips your party with stances and story tags players can invoke to help the party meta-narratively.
